As a result\, residents within a 1-mile radius were evacuated. \nModerator:  \nThomas Linzey\, JD\, Senior Attorney\, is Senior Legal Counsel at the Center for Democratic and Environmental Rights\, an organization committed to globally advancing the legal rights of nature and the environment. He is co-founder of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund and is widely recognized as the founder of the contemporary community rights movement which has resulted in the adoption of several hundred laws across the U.S. and world. He is a cum laude graduate of Widener Law School and sits on the Board of Advisors for the New Earth Foundation. Linzey is the author of Be The Change: How to Get What You Want in Your Community\, On Community Civil Disobedience in the Name of Sustainability\, and is co-author of We the People: Stories from the Community Rights Movement in the U.S. His work has been featured in the New York Times\, Los Angeles Times\, Mother Jones\, and the Nation Magazine. In 2018\, Linzey was named one of the top 400 environmentalists of the last 200 years by the American Environmental Leaders. \n  \nPanelists: \nWes Vins\, MD\, DPA\, Health Commissioner\, Columbiana County General Health District where he is responsible for executing the district’s public health programs\, initiatives and laws. Previously he served 11 years with the District Board of Health\, Mahoning County as a Sanitarian and Deputy Director of Environmental Health. Prior to public service\, Dr. Vins worked with Eagon & Associates of Worthington\, Ohio as an environmental consultant to the solid waste\, water supply\, chemical and petroleum industries. \nDr. Vins received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania\, a Master’s of Science Degree in Environmental Studies from Youngstown State University and a Doctoral Degree in Public Policy and Administration from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He has co-authored several published professional articles and he routinely partners with a variety of entities by serving on numerous committees and advisory groups at the local\, state\, and federal levels. \n  \nGretchen Nickell\, DO\, Chief Medical Officer\, East Liverpool City Hospital (ELCH)\, Dr\, Nickell not only serves as Chief Medical Officer\, but she launched and supervises the residency training program to help build a network of dedicated doctors and actively works at the local clinic in East Palestine and continues to assist patients. \nDr. Nickell graduated from the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens. She completed her internal Medicine residency at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren. In 2011\, Dr. Nickell joined ELCH as the Medical Director and Internal Medicine Program Director. Then in 2016\, Nickell was named Chief Medical Officer at ELCH. Despite the demanding role that she plays she continually looks for ways to meet the needs of the community. \n  \nLaura Fauss\, Environmental Director and Public Inforamtion Officer\, Columbiana County Health District\, Ms. Fauss has eighteen years of experience working in public health as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist. Most of her career was focused on household sewage treatment systems and private water wells. Ms. Fauss was the 2023 Northeast District Director of the Ohio Environmental Health Association\, where she also served on the Board. She is a graduate of the University of Mount Union with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology\, and received her Master’s Degree in Public Health with a concentration in Environmental Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. \n

Since 1989 the organization has planted over 146\,000 trees in the cities of Detroit\, Hamtramck\, and Highland Park. The food bank and food rescue program has been serving Washtenaw County since it was established in 1988. They rescue local food and leverage state and national food resources for hunger relief. Food Gatherers provides a network of hunger relief and engages the public in the fight against hunger. In addition to the provision of food\, they advocate for policies and system changes to create an equitable food system.  \n  \nIn partnership\, we will assist with sorting food (such as produce)\, stocking their pantry with canned goods\, repackaging bulk items\, helping salvage and wash damaged products\, and working to keep the warehouse and trucks clean and food safe.  \n  \nThis event is allowing for up to 20 spots and will fill quickly so please register as soon as possible. DESCRIPTION:The MCACHE Community Engagement event will be on Saturday\, May 20th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm and we will be partnering with Helping Hand for Relief and Development to help pack clothes\, shoes\, and other essential items for delivery to those that need it internationally. \nHelping Hand for Relief and Development is a global humanitarian relief and development organization responding to human sufferings in emergency and disaster situations around the world. Their mission is to provide aid to those who have experienced emergency and disaster situations throughout the world. In additional to providing aid they also work on long term relief and development programs. They distribute clothes and other essential items to those in need. They aim to help all people regardless of race\, gender\, ethnicity\, class\, location\, religion\, and social background\, with a particular focus in areas where populations live below the poverty line. \nIn partnership with Helping Hand for Relief and Development\, we will help with sorting and packaging clothes according to gender and age (adults and kids)\, as well as packaging blankets\, comforters\, school supplies\, and other essential items into boxes that will be sent overseas. \nThis event is allowing for up to 25 spots and will fill quickly so please register as soon as possible. It you attend virtually you can obtain qualified credits only. \n  \nKeynote speaker Lara Wilken\, DNP\, RN.\, Dr. Wilken is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing at BGSU and author of the book chapter Role Play as an Effective Method for the Identification and Assessment of Human Trafficking. Dr. Wilken will describe what human trafficking is\, introduce the barriers to identification\, and discuss the impact trafficking has on every person\, as both a public health care crisis and social justice issue. \n  \nAttendees will view the issue through an evidence-based\, survivor-informed\, interprofessional lens and can gain a better understanding of their role and responsibility in preventing human trafficking. \n  \nDr. Wilken’s presentation will be followed by a panel of individuals from Ohio\, including a forensic nurse\, a trafficking survivor\, and a parent of a survivor. These real-life heroes will share their lived experience and explain the needs of those suffering from exploitation. \n  \nPanelist Sessions \n\nHeather Wilde\, BSN\, RN\, SANE-A: Forensic Nurse and Out of Darkness Volunteer.\nAnnette Mango: Survivor and one of the first sex trafficking victims to have her record expunged in the state of Ohio.\nCarolyn Kinkoph: Mother of Courtney Kinkoph (1992-2022). Courtney lost her life to sex trafficking in February of 2022.\n\n  \nRegardless of your profession\, please join us on April 6 to support our commitment to public good.
