Their mission is to provide aid to those who have experienced emergency and disaster situations throughout the world. In additional to providing aid they also work on long term relief and development programs. They distribute clothes and other essential items to those in need. They aim to help all people regardless of race\, gender\, ethnicity\, class\, location\, religion\, and social background\, with a particular focus in areas where populations live below the poverty line. \nIn partnership with Helping Hand for Relief and Development\, we will help with sorting and packaging clothes according to gender and age (adults and kids)\, as well as packaging blankets\, comforters\, school supplies\, and other essential items into boxes that will be sent overseas. \nThis event is allowing for up to 25 spots and will fill quickly so please register as soon as possible. It you attend virtually you can obtain qualified credits only. \n  \nKeynote speaker Lara Wilken\, DNP\, RN.\, Dr. Wilken is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing at BGSU and author of the book chapter Role Play as an Effective Method for the Identification and Assessment of Human Trafficking. Dr. Wilken will describe what human trafficking is\, introduce the barriers to identification\, and discuss the impact trafficking has on every person\, as both a public health care crisis and social justice issue. \n  \nAttendees will view the issue through an evidence-based\, survivor-informed\, interprofessional lens and can gain a better understanding of their role and responsibility in preventing human trafficking. \n  \nDr. Wilken’s presentation will be followed by a panel of individuals from Ohio\, including a forensic nurse\, a trafficking survivor\, and a parent of a survivor. These real-life heroes will share their lived experience and explain the needs of those suffering from exploitation. \n  \nPanelist Sessions \n\nHeather Wilde\, BSN\, RN\, SANE-A: Forensic Nurse and Out of Darkness Volunteer.\nAnnette Mango: Survivor and one of the first sex trafficking victims to have her record expunged in the state of Ohio.\nCarolyn Kinkoph: Mother of Courtney Kinkoph (1992-2022). Courtney lost her life to sex trafficking in February of 2022.\n\n  \nRegardless of your profession\, please join us on April 6 to support our commitment to public good. SUMMARY:Community Engagement with IONA - Fall Clean-up
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe next MCACHE Community Engagement event will be on Saturday\, October 22nd 10:00am – 12:00pm and will be partnering with the Islamic Organization of North America (IONA) to participate in their Fall clean-up. \nIONA provides many services to the surrounding metro Detroit area including health screenings\, mental health awareness\, soup kitchen\, and youth education. The specific work that participants will anticipate is outdoor gardening/cleaning\, litter pickup\, and general premise clean-up as IONA prepares for the Fall/Winter months. \nThere will be moderate physical activity and outdoor expectations for this event so please wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty and be prepared to stand\, kneel\, walk\, and bend for the duration of the event. Closed-toe shoes are required\, and work may entail use of tools including brooms and other hand gardening tools.
